Website & Digital Asset Recycling
I would like to start a discussion about recycling of old unproductive websites and digital assets. We have now more than 2 Billion websites in the world wide web and billions of assets (pics, videos, text, music) but how many of these are still useful? I guess the result is a disaster and when you think about how many energy we have wasted in kind of technology energy (hosting server, customer: pc’s, tablet pc, idevices: iphone, android) it makes me sad that we always still think on real touchable products & goods and forget the rapid growing online world with their virtual goods (apps, games), digital assets (music, pics, videos) and social platforms (facebook, google+…). So I would like to start an initiative to open the eyes for this theme, to offer project ideas to improve the current disaster and to start a process that all website owners are motivated to be part of it.
What are the benefits?
I guess there is a huge potential to think about the recycling of existing websites and assets when you start a new business and you could use an existing trusted website to save costs for search engine optimization, design or website development. It could be a new online business to offer recycled websites or digital assets for online business newcomer with low budgets or people who are interested in green online business.
Here is a list of some Ideas!
- Green Recycling Button for Assets or Websites to share Engagement
- Green Rank Factor for a Website to motivated Website Owner
- Clean up all unproductive Websites or Assets
- Green Life Cycle for Websites and Assets
Here is an idea of a possible recycling process:
